Perseverance through Adversity

Apparently, the Nebraska crew just doesn’t want the Guatemalan experience to end, and they’re mustering every ounce of strength and energy together to keep it going. Both the Nebraska crew and the Ace Hoops leaders were to arrive back in Omaha and the Twin Cities mid-evening yesterday (Sunday). And then travel disasters from you-know-where…..

Some might think that the Ace Hoops leaders crew had it bad. (Pulling in to my driveway at 2:30 in the morning this morning, I almost felt this way.) Our plane from Houston to Chicago got delayed about four hours…..and then we drove six hours from Chicago back to th

The Great Wall & Chu Chu Ca

As mentioned in our last blog post, the crew did a tremendous job artistically designing a wall outside of the playground at Casa. The home loved it, as did the kids…..as did I! On Saturday we also trekked almost two hours to a remote village way up in the mountains—the people of the Chu Chu Ca (We literally got caught up in the clouds! It was waaaaaay up there!) For me personally, the drive itself was absolutely amazing—filled with beautiful sites and sounds.

The people of the Chu Chu Ca were incredible. Spanish is a second-language to them, as they speak a Mayan dialect. (My apologies, as I’m blanking on the name of the di

Viernes

Today is Friday, and we’re beginning to realize that our time here is nearly over. (Sad face.) We’ve had such a strong start to the week, and we’ve been emphasizing over and over the need to finish strong and keep pressing on! Today, we’ve been put in charge of a legitimately fun painting project. (Yes, legitimately fun painting projects do exist.) We’re painting a wall, putting our artistic abilities to the test with various designs, zig-zags and bright, BRIGHT colors. Afterwards, we’re hoping to put our favorite Bible verses along it as well. It adds color and fun to the playground area, and we find it cool that they’re tru

Antigua & more…

Hey all!

For you parents, family and friends of trip members, I’ll let you ask for more detail upon returning—but speaking from the own words of quite a few gals last night during worship, some amazing bonding and altogether pretty powerful and cool stuff is going on down here. Pray for a strong finish for what’s been an amazing trip thus far.

Until then, we’re off to one of the most beautiful places in the world: Antigua! Hasta luego….

How are you Running?

This trip began months ago. While we’re here in this beautiful place with these beautiful children asking and inviting the Spirit in to do His work and to bring God glory, we have tried to be intentional in conveying the message that this is more than one week in Guatemala. It’s more than one week of painting and programming. More than one week of being challenged and stretched in unique ways.

Our hope and our prayer is that this is but one-small-piece of a big picture towards a life lived relentlessly for Christ.

Paul  compares one’s journey with Christ as a race, and that we are to be
