God With Us

The creator of the universe decided to walk with us. Work with us. Love with us. Serve alongside us. Become us.

That’s powerful stuff….

I invite you to a place where God is working and moving. A place where Ace in the City has been walking with, working with, loving and serving alongside, for over 6 years now: Emmanuel Children’s Home.

We’ve had the privilege of leading teams to this amazing place since 2009. We’re going back down this Christmas in just a few days. It is always such a unique and powerful experience to celebrate God With Us in a context and culture different than our own. Continue reading …

Big Changes

Change is tough sometimes. Even good change….

We’re ramping up for our 4th Annual Doing More Together Fellowship Dinner on Saturday, November 14th. And, as even the name communicates, we’ve got some BIG CHANGES in the works:

We’re so glad to announce that we’re moving the event to our neighborhood. Thanks to our partners, Urban Ventures, for opening up your space to us! No silent auction. (Sigh.) While we loved the atmosphere that a silent auction created, it didn’t necessarily bring about the greatest return on our investment of time and energy. Intentional and increased emphasis on Table

Measurables

A lot of nonprofits have their own ways of measuring success: exceeding fundraising goals, the number of X reached in this program or that, likes on Facebook or followers on Twitter.

All good things….

And while Ace is attentive to measurables like this, we have other ways in which we gauge the effectiveness of our work. Just last week we reached a HUGE milestone and one that we’re celebrating:

We’ve been approached by the park to lead something new.

Our programs are bursting at the seams. We’re reaching max capacity at both our literacy program on Monday’s as well as our After Scho

Life on Mission

We’ve officially settled into the home in Juarez, Mexico. For us at Ace in the City, this is an exciting trip. It’s our BIGGEST trip yet (with 27 people). It’s a trip filled with newly weds, entire family units, brothers, best friends, mom’s with daughters and dad’s with daughters….what a cool reflection of family!

And yet, as we lead another trip to this beautiful place, we’re reminded yet again that God desires to do so much more beyond a one-week trip.

God desires to do BIG THINGS when we return home.

This week is a stepping stone to a life more intentionally, relentlessly, passionately lived on mi

Partnership

I find it remarkable that the God of the universe made the intentional decision to walk alongside us. The Message translation says it this way: “The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood.” (John 1:14)

Unbelievable, really. God with us!

And if that wasn’t enough, the God of the universe not only moved into the neighborhood, not only walked alongside of us, He PARTNERED WITH US!! He left us work to do. He commanded us to go and make, to go and do as He had done. And He promised that He’d be with us, always!

I think one of the reasons God partnered with us is to show us a bet

Benefit Dinner 2014

On Saturday, November 1st, Ace in the City is hosting its 3rd Annual Benefit Dinner & Silent Auction. This year, we’ll be celebrating together at the Shoreview Community Center, with the silent auction portion of the evening beginning at 5 pm. This year’s theme is “Neighbors”–believing Jesus was on to something when he challenged his believes to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” It’s not easy, but we’ve seen and experienced that it sure does work! Tickets and sponsorships must be purchased online, and can be done by clicking on this link.

When it Rains, it Pours

It’s raining here in Juarez. As the team has continued to settle in, connect and jump right in with the activities and programming for the week…As we’ve debriefed the last few nights, it’s becoming more and more clear that it’s been raining much longer than the past few hours.

Many team members are bringing in a wide range of hurts and pains and struggles from back home The battle rages on as storms and tempest roar–and I think many are hoping this trip can be a relief of sorts. Because when it rains, it pours.

YET…

With God, there is a YET! Thank you, Jesus!
