Manana

Tomorrow we venture off for our 5th annual July trip to the Emmanuel Children’s Home in Juarez, Mexico. Can’t believe we’re in our 5th year (and 11th trip!!). God is good! (All the time!)

At Ace, we have a heart for community. We have a heart for God’s Kingdom! And we have a open heart as we seek to be part of building community, and His Kingdom, right here. Right now!

I am a HUGE believer that one of the first things we can do to be transformative agents of His love is to stretch ourselves. Get outside of our comfort zones! Be challenged! Because when we’re comfortable, we tend to stay put. Not

Summer of '13

It’s almost summer, I think! (But I make no promises!!)

Ace | After School closes out our 2nd year of programming at Powderhorn Park today! What a year it’s been!!! And while our Hoops, After School, and Deeper programs are a bit more heavily focused during the school year months, summer is no slouch for us at Ace in the City.

Here’s a glimpse into our summer:

I can’t believe we’re saying this, but we’re leading our 5th Annual Summer Trip to Juarez and our friends at the Emmanuel Children’s Home. With a team of 18 (and counting), we’re excited for what’s in store! 2nd Annual Back2School Bash

Stepping on the Court

On Sunday, February 24th, Ace in the City was recognized as Nonprofit of the Game at the Minnesota Timberwolves battle with the Golden State Warriors! What an amazing experience! Thanks to all of you who were able to make it out–so fun to see a swarm of blue Ace shirts buzzing around the arena!

For those of you who missed it, below is a picture from our halftime, on-the-court, presentation with a few of our boys, brothers DJ & Wanzay, as well as Wolves President Chris Wright!

We were also able to share our video Meet DJ to the entire fan base at the game! An awesome and humbling experience! Thanks to all our volun

Year in Review

What a year it’s been! I’ve been so busy lately, so forward in thinking, that I’ve failed to take the time to reflect on all that’s been in 2012. But, WOW, what a year!

While it’s been an incredible year, I find myself sharing a similar headline from year’s past: God is good.

God has continually opened doors that only HE can open, bring the right people and resources that only HE can bring, bless us in ways that only HE can bless. Work in ways that only He can work.

And it’s forced me to humbly pray what has become a similar request in my prayer life: God, thank you. Seriousl

Changing Climate

What’s funny right now is that for those of you that read the title of this post were probably thinking that I was going to be talking about how drastic of a weather change it’s been down here. How it was 65 and sunny today. Going to be 65 and sunny tomorrow. (I’m golfing with a few leaders tomorrow. Yay for me!!) 65 and sunny on Sunday. 65 and sunny on Monday…..and did I mention no snow in the forecast either….

The climate change has been nice. Can’t say I miss the snow or the cold or the crappy roads or the bottoms of my jeans being wet and gross. BUT, and this is so exciting, the real climate c

Present of Presence

Advent is a season of anticipation. A time of remembering the King that came and will come again.

So this whole Jesus-as-king–yet-born-in-a-manger thing has had me thinking about kings and kingdoms and the way things work on this earth and the way things should be. (And, ultimately, will be.)

Here’s a gist of what I’ve been thinking:

Earthly kingdoms and earthly kings recruit the top echelon candidates–the big whigs and Harvard grads and experienced leaders–to run departments and programs. Our King left it up to a bunch of fishermen.

Earthly kings are seen in suites and on AirForce1

7 Days of Reflections

I think I might get myself into some trouble with this post. (That’s never a good way to start something, is it!?!?!)

So our family just moved into Ace House #2, literally one block off the park in our south MPLS Powderhorn community. We’ve been in for one week and because we’ve been living like cavemen without television (might be a good thing, actually) and internet came just yesterday, we’ve had quite a bit of time to reflect on things. (It’s been quite the crazy last four weeks, not a shortage of things to think about…).

I’m one to (1) number things and (2) vomit out thoughts with

Not a game of Numbers

I have been reminded lately of the story of Samuel and the quest God placed on him to find and anoint a new king of Israel. I’m in Fantasy Football draft mode right now (hoping Megatron finds his way on my squad), and I envision Sammy creating his own King of Israel mock draft–a list of who should be the first candidate to be considered for such a big position. And then there was David, who I don’t think who have even been a candidate for “Mr. Irrelevant”–the recognition given to the last player drafted in the actual NFL draft.

He was young. He was scrawny. He was a shephard. Boy. With peach fuzz.

Maxine & Me

We’re excited to announace that our Ace | Neighbor program is tripling in size over this past summer. This program really doesn’t deserve a title, but it’s our initiative (and we hope to create more opportunites in the next few years) to get suburbanites out of…the ‘burbs and into the city. Living! Not just in and out…but relocating!

Our first Ace House has been occupied for over 9 months, and a few weeks back Ashley moved into the lower half of our second place–just two blocks away from house #1.

My family and I are moving to the upstairs part of this duplex within the next few weeks
